ABOUT

Amy D’s fresh look, unique perspective, and music that co-exists in the realms of jazz, soul, world, and R&B styles appeals to multi-generational audiences. But it is the depth and sincerity of her lyrics and her storytelling that draws listeners into her world.

And this is what drew her to Sarah Vaughan.

“It’s the storytelling and honesty of the lyrics that has always captured my heart. The songs speak directly to you…

With a musical foundation rooted in jazz and the Great American songbook followed by formal classical training, Amy D. relishes in the subtle, technical, and expressive.

“I see all of these in Sarah Vaughan’s performances; while marveling at her signature nuances and sheer vocal dexterity, I am simultaneously transported to another time and space.”

Beyond the artistry, Amy D. is also drawn to the person that Sarah Vaughan was.

“She poured such light and vibrancy into the music, despite the challenges she faced to garner support from record labels, venues, critics, and segregated audiences and airwaves, as a Black female artist. For much of her career, she fought to stay true to her voice and creative instincts.

Beyond her undeniable mastery, I think what she achieved throughout her lifetime is a testament to her resilience. I believe the strength of her spirit, combined with the commitment with which she did what she loved allowed her to persevere through it all…”

Amy D. Sings Sarah Vaughan is a tribute to Sarah Vaughan’s artistry, spirit, resilience, and freedom of expression.
